Watch out where you trim trees. From Roy Appleton comes news that Oak Cliff resident Sandra McFeeley, who is 67 (67 is the new 57) and an attorney, was recently arrested and got to see the inners of Lew Sterrett. Her crime? Pruning a Wynnewood green belt where she walks her dogs.

‘The 5-foot-2-inch, 108-pound McFeeley says she has been cutting and removing briars, vines, dead tree limbs and trash from the woods of Wynnewood Parkway Park for three or so years.”

Last fall, her the Wynnewood North Neighborhood Association honored McFeeley for her pro bono work and even gave her a Home Depot gift card. This year, neighbors who like to leave the greenbelt “wild”, complained that she is disturbing the ecosystem and not obeying the posted signs:

“The signs cite Section 32-3 of the city code, which states: “It shall be unlawful for any person to cut, break, deface or in any way injure the trees, shrubs, plants, grass, turf, fountains, seats, fences, structures, improvements, ornaments or monuments or property, within or upon any of the public parks.”

So does that mean, if I am walking in a public park and I see a cracked limb hanging from a tree, I could be fined $4500 for property damage like Ms. McFeeley if I snap it down and trash it?

I tell you, Dallas is getting more California-ized every day. Ah, but here’s the bright note: Ms. McFelley says Lew Sterrett was kind of cool and she met some neat people in there. I have an interior designer friend who got a few too many traffic tickets she forgot to pay and she also saw the insides of Lew Sterrett. Said it was a blast. The girls in the slammer nicknamed her “Lollipop” .
Oddly, my complex at 4111 Cole (which is gated and fenced all around) hasn’t seen a single break-in. Seems stupid though, as you drive by a few times and realize that they’ve just parked the car there and left. It was on Cole Ave. for a day too.”

Very sad and scary news from The Meadows neighborhood Friday night: a 22 year old man was shot Friday night at about 9:40 p.m., then dumped in an alley south of Blairview off Walnut Hill Lane. The man later died in the Baylor ER. Reports are putting his age at 22, but from the comments on the Dallas Morning News website it appears the victim, Louis Barajas, may have been 27; robbery the apparent motive. Again, folks, we need to get a grip on crime in Dallas. The Meadows crime report is in the jump:

Good morning, fellow neighbors!
I’m sending you this note based on the information that I have on an episode in our
neighborhood last night at 8:15.
First of all, this episode did not involve ANY resident of The Meadows but took
place in our neighborhood.
From what the police investigators can tell from the scene and from witnesses in the vicinity
that heard the thing as it unfolded:
1. A car of unknown make and model entered the alleway south of Blairview from
Boedeker.
2. We are assuming that the victim said “hey” loud enough to be heard by folks two
houses from the scene.
3. 3 shots were fired from an unknown gun inside the car
4. The victim was hit 3 times in the torso and was alive when he was taken to the
hospital by ambulance.
5. The car then proceeded south down the alleyway and exited our neighborhood at
Walnut Hill.
The victim was approached by one of our neighbors as he ly in the alleyway where he was
wounded. He confirmed that he had been shot and that the assailant was a “black male”,
but could not say anything else since he was in pretty bad shape from his wounds.
The police have very little to go on with their investigation. If anyone in our neighborhood
caught images on their home security cameras of suspicious activity around this timeframe,
please let me know and I’ll get you the information for the detective that I spoke to last
night at the scene of this.
Please let me know if you have any questions. I will let you know if I hear any additional
details.
If you are getting this information in the form of a paper document and have

If you park your car the “wrong way”, that is, against the flow of traffic, you will be given a ticket these days in Ridgewood Park. This was apparently prompted by a not so neighborly complaint to the po po and now everyone’s getting ticketed if parked “wrong” . Generally, this is not a neighborhood of narcs. The Ridgewood Park Neighborhood Association says hey, all you have to do is contact them and they’ll take care of it, no need to bug the police. Meantime, I am just so happy when I do parallel park that I haven’t hit anyone I usually do not pay attention to the traffic flow…

Like neighborhood crime central: corner shopping centers are the fulcrum of these local neighborhoods, and they seem to be going to hell in a grocery cart basket. Monday night, a friend was beaten in the face as she left Whole Foods at Preston-Forest where I shop — had her jewelry stolen, terrified at 6:30 ish in the evening. (Note to Whole Foods: plant that policeman OUTSIDE, please, where he does us some good.) Last night at a a real estate event with Ebby Halliday, I heard about a Realtor who was robbed recently at Highland Park Village: guy in a Jaguar comes to the window, puts a gun to her head, says “do not look at me or I’ll blow your head off — just hand me your jewelry.” She obeyed, lived to tell about it.

Then Nancy tells us that Popolos is closing at Preston Royal?
