D Sale of the Week: David Feld’s Southern Comfort

FeldThis charming brick and clapboard cottage, designed in 1936 by Charles Dilbeck, is owned by Dallas native and former D Home editor David Feld, who now lives in Connecticut and works in New York. (The house was also featured in D Home.) Every room of the just-under-2,000-square-foot cottage is a designer’s paradise, including the remodeled kitchen with sleek cabinetry, granite countertops, gourmet appliances, and skylight. A beautiful turreted staircase leads to two bedrooms—the master is on the first floor—and one serves as a study with charming views, bookcase-lined wall, and faux fireplace. Among the bells and whistles: hardwood and seagrass floors, cedar-lined closets, sandstone counters in the baths, speakers in every room, large backyard with patio, flagstone terrace, and tended perennial garden. But the real treat with this home is the grounds: 50-year-old pecans and live oaks on a 55-by-117-foot deep lot. List price: $439,000.

Dallas Real Estate: Higher Gas Prices Mean Higher Mortgage Rates?

Dan Green seems to think yes, actually: rising gas prices foreshadow rising mortgage rates.

Southwest Announces New Service to the Beaches of Northwest Florida

If you own vacation property on the Florida Gulf Coast, you may be feeling a bit giddy. Southwest Airlines just announced service to Northwest Florida’s new International Airport in Panama City, Florida, which is mega news for that region. The new state-of-the-art airport, which I toured in the spring, opens in May 2010, will give the area a major lift boost and help it grow even more as a vacation destination, particularly for North Texans who are the area’s top second home owners in the area.

Devonshire Reduction, Amazing Home, Where’s the Money, Honey?

CaruthNow don’t get me wrong, I LOVE this home and the “Texas Vernacular” style most of us call Austin contemporary. And this baby is decked out by — here’s a surprise — Wisteria. Yes, Wisteria is now doing home staging. (Who isn’t?) I swear, if I don’t get a fix of this Calcutta Danby marble in the next five minutes, I am going to go steal some one’s counter top right out of their kitchen. (But why did they use it only on the kitchen island? I’d put it everywhere — floors, commodes, counters.) Anyhow, the only thing I am amazed at is we have a delightful home in Devonshire on sale for almost $1.5 mil.

I’m told today the home has been reduced from $1,449,000 to $1.399 mil. The architect was Border-Snyder, and it was built by Starboard Development’s Ben Parker, who’s married to one of the McKay daughters from UP.  Agent: Burton Rhodes, Dave Perry-Miller Highland Park. Very fresh, young approach to this home.

But… I remember when you could get a home in Devonshire for $150K…
