David Braden, a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, was one of a whole generation of gifted architects in Dallas during the middle part of the last century, gifted enough so that George Dahl chose his firm into which to merge his own when he was ready to step back from running his own firm. Although much of Braden’s work has been non-residential, you will have the opportunity to tour Braden’s very own house during this year’s Old Oak Cliff Conservation League Fall Home Tour, October 10 and 11. It is said that the cantilevered deck was one of the first in Dallas–caught on pretty well, I’d say.
As a current steward of one of David Braden’s mid-century modern homes, I can attest to Braden’s genius in designing homes to take full advantage of the site and terrain. He was gifted in incorporating the outdoors in, and vice versa. His use of glass, perspective and appropriate scale are a treasure to get to enjoy on a daily basis.
Will have to go on the tour just to see this wonderful house. Any info on the other houses to be on tour?
We’ll cover all for you, but do go. This home is GORGEOUS and makes me proud, once again, of Dallas real estate!
I’ve seen better & bigger decks on double wides around Lake Palestine…
This is a fantastic home and not to be missed. I encourage those interested to attend this tour and support OOCCL.

Bubba: Your name suits you.
Bubba, did you notice the article said this was the FIRST cantilevered deck? This is what started it all. Of course you improve on an idea that is over 60 years old. Braden did on future designs. Unfortunately for those you refer to, they only have a double wide to go with their deck. Braden attached his deck to an award winning home!
