It's miserable in the summer, so if your work and finances allow, you'd be crazy to stay in Dallas during July & August. I think it's also easier for more Texans to buy a second home because their primary residences are relatively reasonable compared to what they'd cost in most other large cities. A Dallasite can have a nice primary home, an equally nice lake house, and a summer beach condo rental for less than the cost of just a modest bungalow in a decent part of L.A. Totally agree.
