Quote from lunch. I guess it’s so hot here, or we lack mountains and ocean, we just go buy the scenery elsewhere: Colorado, New Mexico (Santa Fe), Mexico, Central America, Florida.

Totally agree. It’s miserable in the summer, so if your work and finances allow, you’d be crazy to stay in Dallas during July & August. I think it’s also easier for more Texans to buy a second home because their primary residences are relatively reasonable compared to what they’d cost in most other large cities. A Dallasite can have a nice primary home, an equally nice lake house, and a summer beach condo rental for less than the cost of just a modest bungalow in a decent part of L.A.

DallasDirt is a daily discussion of the Dallas-Fort Worth real estate market, led by D Home Real Estate Editor Mary Candace Evans with contributions from real estate experts and aficionados. Topics include house porn, hot neighborhoods, hot agents, hip pockets, celebrity listings, second homes, vacation homes, real estate trends, data analysis, tips for buying, selling, or staying put. If DallasDirt were a house, it'd be a three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath ranch transitional on a quarter acre lot with stainless kitchen and granite countertops: sophisticated with designer touches, room for expansion. Make an offer.
