First Time Dallas Home Buyers Diary: Behind The Pink Wall
My daughter and fiance have bought a condo “Behind The Pink Wall” and we have been fixing it up for weeks. First time home-buyer’s both, here is what the master bedroom looked like: ugh. But the room is huge and has great bones, super potential. First order: paint the walls and get rid of all that neutral beige. Second order: toss the beige carpets and install engineered hardwood floors.

Candy, thanks for sharing this with us. Regardless of what changes and improvements your kids (and yes, I’m sticking the fiance in your brood), this is their FIRST HOME. It will be the setting for many memories, and will always be special to your daughter. Our “first home” was a tiny apartment at the end of Amherst cul-de-sac in Devonshire…right behind Dunston’s. We were so young, the proximity to bee-hived waitresses and a salad bar screamed “location, location, location!”
No matter what, I wish for your daughter a new HOME, filled with love. And, yes, ditch the neutral carpet.
Candy, my experience with “engineered” hardwood floors is a bit lacking. Can you elaborate on what you have in mind? I want to replicate the floor in the photo of the game room as shown here: http://www.dallasfamilyhomes.com/irving-homes/11213724
But I’m not sure if that is “engineered”, or completely custom.

Oh I will! They are in and look great, but I cannot take any nice pictures as there are boxes all over the place. When I show you the final redo, we’ll talk engineered hardwoods. Our dilemma was price — carpet is always cheaper but we wanted hard surfaces. We almost used vinyl wood, but decided against that. Clean freaks unite!
