Bush Gate Taking Longer

I went to TREC “Young Guns” tonight at The Tower Club and learned so much. Like when I heard that the Bushes are looking at a re-design of the gate they ordered for Daria Drive — seems the first design priced out too high, and since they are footing the bill for the gate (which is so nice of them!) they wanted to go back for something a little less simpler. Tell you what, I’ll bet they are just shocked by how high building prices are.

By putting up a gate on Daria Drive and Place, does that now mean that every house on Daria Drive and Daria Place are now in a homeowner’s association? I thought the rule was that when you close off access to the public (i.e. putting up a gate), that the homeowners behind the gate were now responsible for so much more than just the cost of a gate, i.e. cost of repaving roads, etc. Anyone know?

You’re on to something. That’s what the city told us when our HOA inquired about putting up a security gate at the entrance to our community. We would have also been liable for maintaining a concrete bridge that crosses a creek. We proceeded no further.

The Star-Telegram has a report on the tight security surrounding George W. and Laura Bush’s move into their Dallas home. Police officers have been turning away vehicles trying to enter the Preston Hollow neighborhood, “explaining that it is closed to the general public.” While there will soon be a private security gate going up (paid for by the Bush family, not the federal government as previously reported), the city is racking up close to $1 million annually in security expenses for the former president. They have also “barricaded the entrance to Daria Drive, allowing only neighbors and people on a special list to enter.” One resident a few doors down said he has yet to even be allowed to “walk down by the Bush home.”

From my point of view, the Bush’s are very self-centered and selfish.

Moving to Preston Hollow has created a logistical nightmare that comes with a high price. Not only from a cost standpoint but from an annoyance standpoint. Preston Hollow has been changed forever–as long as the Bush’s live there.

I think the Bush’s don’t care how their move impacts the immediate community. Every neighbor, within a short radius of Daria Place, will have a higher stress level due to the media attention, Secret Service, and police presence.

Ideally, the Bush’s should have moved to a rural location just outside of Dallas. A rural location which would impact fewer neighbors’ lives and vastly help the Secret Service guard and protect the ex-president.
