Found this message in my email FROM A FRIEND concerning increased crime at NorthPark Mall. Question: are there security cameras in those garages? Of course, technology only goes so far. Use your head! Driving home from Austin today I saw a woman driving, wearing a rock of Gibraltar — at least 10 ct — on her left hand. Beautiful ring, yes, but given the economic climate this might be a good time to leave the bling in the Safety Deposit Box unless it’s Crystal Charity night.“I wanted to let you know that I had my purse snatched at Northpark on Sunday (note: 11/13) at 6 pm. I was coming out of Nordstrom on the garage side - I was parked on the lowest level of the garage and my car was in full view when I walked out the Nordstrom door. I was just feet away from my car when two men came at me from behind (I guess they were hiding) and grabbed my purse. I held onto it tight - I was in such full view that I thought if I could bide some time that surely someone would come out the door or drive by and scare them away. The theives were so bold to do this in full view. Anyway, they pulled me to the ground and drug me about 10 ft ( I still would not give up my purse!). They didn’t show any weapons - if they had, I would have freely let it go. I screamed but no one=2 0came - they guys yelled at me to let it go so I did. I felt like if I didn’t let it go at that moment they might do something at that point b/c they were getting frustrated with me.
Anyway, I am ok - bruised, but it could have been so much worse. They could have shot me or taken my car or thrown me in my car and made me drive and do something to me. I was not really scared, just mad that they would do this and that they got away with it. I know that Northpark is bad, but I thought I was being cautious. Tell your friends to beware of the garages. The police told me that there are not security cameras in the garage which I think is incredible given the crime that has occurred up there. I really think that these guys know that there are no cameras b/c their faces were in full view. Also, there was no security around when this happened. The story ran on the news and it has been reported that suspects have been caught, which is a lie. I think that the mall is reporting this b/c they are afraid that they will lose business here at the holidays. I am calling the mall today and give them a piece of my mind for their lack of security and concern. I have not heard a word from them since the incident.
The police said that they expect a lot crime this year w/the holidays approaching and the economy being so bad. I go to Northpark all the time just to run in quickly all the time to get things here and there b/c I live so close. I will eventually go back, but I just don’t want to give the mall my business right now. When I do go back, I guess that I will use valet or have security escort me out no matter how close I am to the door.
Anyway, I am just spreading the word so this doesn’t happen to other girls here near the holidays. I called XXX and told her last night. She said that she parks in that part of the garage by Nordstrom where I did all the time. So, I am glad that I warned her. I just want everyone I know to be safe.”
Candy, you are the few lucky one.
There were lots of car jackings, arm robberies occured at least every two days or several time for one night. They will not be seen on newspaper or TV. Don’t ask, don’t tell. It works for the mall and the police.
Recent weeks, lots of those crimes toke owner(s) to ATM and withdraw all monies. It is lucky if victims not being raped or shot.
Get the Mall Security phone# and call them to escort you in and out parking lot, “I think” at least they will provide this service. Remember, if still something occured. I bet you the Security (security with no gun is no security. It will not scare even a child) will disappear in front of you quicker than you realized.
People think they has cell phone on hand at all times and can call police. Wrong concept. 911 may put you on hold and answer on you dead body.
Get you CHL. Never count on any by-standers nor police. You life, not theirs.
Same regards to female realtors.
Don’t put yourself into the statistics, worst case that your story will never be told.
Candy, let me know if interest in CHL. Be safe.

I have vowed to never talk about CHL on the blog again, but maybe that should be the next license I acquire.
I am sure you can look up a police crime report to see what all crime has taken place at Northpark. I am sure it is not good but carjackings and robberies several times a day?

Really? And how is it you track crime at NorthPark when the information is being suppressed?
Candy,
I will never mentioned about CHL on your blog again. I respect you.
If anyone above are ligitimated citizen and wondering how I know this, contact me in email with a ligitimated web address or something it shows you are in good business, I will tell you. Don’t want the bad guys know this.

I am not defending Northpark at all, but I did a search on crime and saw 5-6 violent crimes in 2008. Is it a perception problem or is it really violent? Not sure.
NP will always be a target b/c of the high-end stores, just like when the jeweler got held up near Stanley Korshak (at the crescent?) a few weeks back. Sad but true.
As much as I love to shop and walk there, I only let me wife go to NP if I’m with her.
On Monday, the City Council had an interesting briefing on Monday at Public Safety about Holiday Mall Security. Dwaine Caraway and a couple others suggested that NP should build their own towers for security. Yes they pay taxes but they also paid multi-millions to expand the mall and left the security burden to the city. During the holidays the city spends tens of thousands on ValleyView, Galleria, and Northpark for the towers you see.
What we did in District Four:
Last fall, in a shopping center in Oak Cliff we had an outbreak in crime including several robberies and a murder. We made the owners buy their own tower and beef up security and crime went down.
Two different philosophies on how to address crime, but there’s my 2cents.
Are there any legal obstacles to hiring myself out to be an armed escort at NP? Hmmm, I wonder…it would make sense to me if $10 was all it took to secure my walk to the car with packages in tow.
I don’t have the state-licensing as an armed security officer (private or public). But I have my CHL, along with a small, effective array of firearms.
Maybe I should check into this as my holiday gig.
Spraking of crime…
Why does the following Dallas Dirt link take me to a page that simply says “Hello world!!”?

Refresh your browser. Or, if all else fails, just re-start and re-boot. Our blogs were down over the weekend and some people are still having difficulties. So sorry.
What about inside of NP? Everytime I take the kids to the foodcourt, someone asks for money. I feel like I’m in my car on the corner of Central and Walnut again!
