This from a Reader:
“05/27/2008 was the date that two Pit Bull dogs weaseled their way through our wrought iron fence on Stanford Ave in Devonshire neighborhood. My wife and our two Greyhounds were in our garden, minding their own business, and were attacked by the two loose killing machines. Police, Animal Control, injuries to my wife and one Greyhound, etc. The dogs will be released from quarantine to resume their reign of terror. There has been no contact by the owner, no offer to pay medical and vet bills — just the arrogance of irresponsible owners. What do you think?”
I thought if someone was bitten by a dog in Texas now there is a tough new law that has some teeth in it, pardon the pun? (I guess I’ll have to research, sigh.)
‘Killing machines’ sounds a little melodramatic and I am wondering if this person would have described an attack by any other breed in the same way?
That said, tougher penalities need to be in place for any dog owner who is obviously negligent enough not to socialize or train their dogs, and then add insult to injury by allowing them to run free in the neighborhood jeopardizing the well being of innocent people and animals. Why wasn’t the owner in this case cited and made to pay a fine for allowing his obviously aggressive dogs to get out. Why wasn’t the owner also made to pay compensation for the damages inflicted? I really don’t understand this countries need to rush out and enforce breed bans, but they fail to penalize irresponsible dog owners of any breed when something like this happens.
Oh ye of little faith. Your first sentence was going good. You should have left it at that. Now you’ve gone into the emotional reaction and lost all value.
Tougher penalties? Are you serious? Shows you have no idea of the criminal or civil issues that could be brought against the home owner. When did this happen? Could be in the courts soon. Try reading this law passed Sept. 2007.

Of course most people could careless that thousands of laws are on the books that can be used and for some reason beyond comprehension want MORE legislation based out of fear and only having one side of the story, or inaccurate information.
Oh that’s the law we all voted on!
