Help Her Protest Her Property Taxes

Just opened this email:

“Candy — Did you get your property tax statements? Our’s has gone up. I was going to protest it. Do have any good reasons up your sleeve or articles by chance?”

Can you help her? And do tell, is there one piece of property in this town that has not seen an escalation in appraisals?

No response. Because I don’t think there isn’t a property in town without a tax increase. I’m busy running comps for clients to use in their tax protest.

My appraisal has increased 85% over the past 5 years, but my across-the-street neighbor told me that his appraisal went down this year….we couldn’t figure out why.

she could hire a tax attorney to protest–they usually do the trick. Interesting that appraisal values can climb 20 percent in a single year….have we really ever seen a 20 percent increase in market value in a single year? (let alone this year?)

Enjoy your increased property values folks. There is a cap for a reason.

    85%? That’s nothing — try 259.16% over the last 5 years!
