MORE THAN 150 PRETTY PUPS EXPECTED FOR 23rd ANNUAL EASTER IN THE PARK
POOCH PARADE SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT LEE PARK
Owners adorn pampered pets in everything from bunny ears and Mardi Gras beads, to bonnets, flowers, feathers and frills WHAT: This Sunday pampered pups will be dressed up in their Easter finery – bonnets, flowers, feathers and frills, and even pastel dye jobs – for the Turtle Creek Association’s 23rdAnnual Easter in the Park event featuring the hilarious Pooch Parade and Costume Contest at 1 p.m. The Dallas Animal Services’ Parade of Adoptable dogs kicks off the festivities at 12:45 p.m. Held at Lee Park off Lemmon in Dallas, the event is free and open to the public (although a $10 registration fee is required for dogs entering the Pooch Parade). The beloved family-oriented celebration typically attracts 10,000 – 12,000 attendees (depending on the weather!). Guests are invited to bring blankets and picnic lunches or may dine on a wide variety of “State-Fair-type” foods, such as corn dogs, funnel cakes, schnitzel on a stick and kettle corn. The event benefits Turtle Creek Association, a 501 (c) (3) organization whose primary focus is to enhance, preserve and protect the Turtle Creek Corridor. Registration begins at 11 a.m. for dogs of every size and breed (including the lovable Heinz 57) for the Pooch Parade and Costume Contest, which costs $10 per dog per category, listed as follows: “Best Big Dog,” “Best Little Dog,” “Best Dressed Dog” and “Best Owner/Pet Look-A-Like Dog.” Comedian Paul J. Williams and diva Mattie Roberts will jointly handle the Master of Ceremonies duties. Celebrity judges will be on hand for the Pooch Parade and Costume Contest to decide the best in each of four categories.
