Had lunch Today with LeLe Gioia of Briggs-Freeman and Peggy, at scrumptious Rise (Inwood and Lovers) which you will read all about in next month’s D Home. (Peggy has me convinced the souffles run about 90 calories each.) We were talking about how hard it is to list an ugly home, of which LeLe has none. Lucky her. You know, you walk in and as much as you want to call HomeVestors (”We Buy Ugly Homes”) you bite your lip, as my father would have said. You look around and then the homeowners ask you, what do you think we need to do to sell this home?
“Implode it.”
Ever happened to you?
Dying to read your opinion of Rise. I have NEVER been to such an expensive place that was so bad. How do you ruin an artichoke? How do you NOT make hollandaise with tons of egg yolks being thrown away? It has some strange something in the middle. Anyway, there were 6 of us we ordered dessert souffles when we ordered the entrees. It took 45 min. AFTER they cleared the entree plates to recieve the desserts, which were good. The noise level in there is deafening, service is tragic, the bill was presented in a rock and as you left you are given a piece of paper with a daily thought…Lose the gimmicks, work on the food, service and acoustics. If not, it is probably a good place for dessert and a cup of coffee. Period!!
Actually, I think it is one of the best new restaurants I’ve been to. They are busy because they are so popular.
