Calling All Home Voyeurs

This is a post-Superbowl, early Valentines Day treat: there is a company called HouseFront.com that has this cool, instant technology. All you do is text message a home address (city and state) to a phone number (46873, it spells out H-O-U-S-E) and voila — you get all the info on the home at your fingertips FREE like size, market value (according to the local appraisal district). I just tried it on my i-phone and it worked — my home –I got the owner (my husband, they apparently are not familiar with Texas’ community property statutes) , the square footage, number of bedrooms and baths, lot size and year built. (Um, we actually took possession in 2000 but what’s a year?) This is too cool. You can also do it on the computer! Next I’m going to try some out-of-state addresses. So this is how ole biddy Real Estalker gets her stuff…. I must tell Doris Jacobs!

I just tried it on my house. It got some stuff correct (size, number of bedrooms). The year built was wrong — it said 1999 (actually, it’s said 99 on a couple that I typed in), but it was really 2005.

Also, the sales price they have listed is COMPLETELY wrong…by almost $100k. The value range is also completely off target.

Same thing here. Year built was incorrectly listed as 1999, and purchase price was off.

It was more than a few houses off the address both my house here and another state. Number of rooms and sq. footage and year built were accurate, but it was off about 200K on the purchase price – said I paid more for my house in Dallas than I did. Not a good tool for accuracy imo.

Oh they screwed up our’s totally: used comps that had 2/3rds less land than we have. It will be interesting to see if someone can come up with an accurate computerized model to value Real Estate properties. Still, the instantaneousness of it amazes me.
