Depressing. But thanks to one of our super smart editors, I just paid my Dallas County taxes on line this year via credit card — with no service fee ! In fact, when Christine told me I could do this I didn’t believe her (shame on me) and so I called Dallas County, went on hold for about 20 minutes, then a warm voice perked in to confirm: zero service fee this year. Yippee! I just picked up a bunch of airline miles!
I have to pay taxes in San Antonio’s Bexar County — they do not offer the credit card convenience. (The mail will have to do.)  However, SA offers a drive-through tax drop off. Then you go get you a drive-through margarita.
Makes it so convenient you almost forget that it’s your money you are giving up by the truckload. Not that I’m any happier getting a 30 day grace period and AA miles: I’m still wearing black this week to protest our property taxes, among the highest in the nation.
But Hawaii is calling.Â
Plus you can get miles on your credit card! Takes away alittle of the pain of taxes.
Good you got free airline miles and no service fee.
However, be glad you don’t live in Chicago where I’ve recently relo’d. Property taxes aren’t quite as high, per se, however, we found out at the 11th hour that we got hit with a city of Chicago tax of 3% (now 4% in 2008) just for the “privelege” of buying a residence in the city. Yet another one of the mayor’s little pet taxes since they can’t seem to balance a budget here.
Makes the old days in Big D look pretty grand.
OMG. Love the Windy but they do stick it to ya!
Candy,
You just saved my life! I just paid my taxes online in just a few minutes. I realized yesterday that I had closed all my bank accounts because of my purse situation. I didn’t know what I was going to do to get this paid! Anyway, now I can use my airline miles!!!! and go somewhere warm!
Oh I am so happy. Sweet revenge would be if whoever stole your person gets stuck with your tax bill!!!!
